The Midlands come alive with the 9th edition of the Realtime International Film Festival (RTF); an independent film festival that attracts filmmakers globally, fostering a platform for artistic expression and collaboration. Registration and participation are FREE, and there are no tickets! Last year's event took place in Kent, but this year, it has relocated to Worcester and is now aligned with the Worcester Festival, with the goal of establishing a dynamic centre for independent film. Our main audience includes both up-and-coming filmmakers and experienced professionals celebrated at prestigious festivals like Cannes, Toronto, and Berlin. Additionally, RTF features outstanding films that have received accolades at the Oscars and the Africa Movie Academy Awards. RTF is five-star rated and is listed among the Top 100 best-reviewed festivals. Technology is integral to RTF’S approach the festival thrives through collaboration and inclusion. Privately funded, the festival acts as a bridge linking cinema enthusiasts with the entertainment industry, focusing especially on participants from Africa, Asia, America and the Caribbean to collaborate with UK-based filmmakers. Attendees for #RTF2024 are expected to start arriving on August 22nd to engage in the Worcester Show/Carnival, paving the way for the inaugural ceremony planned for the next day. The festival calendar can be found on our homepage. From August 23rd when the opening ceremony takes place at the Mockingbird Cinema in Birmingham to August 25th, 2024, when the festival concludes with an awards ceremony in a red-carpet event in Worcester, RTF will be welcoming over 70 international filmmakers, and showcasing 124 films across multiple venues, from 9:00 am to 9:30 pm each day. RTF’s mission is distinct: to develop a creative economy that is equitable, collaborative, and profitable. Since 2016, RTF’S dedication has been steadfast, living up to its creed "for filmmakers, by filmmakers." Also known as #filmdemocracy, RTF is a space where barriers are removed, to encourage creative expression and financial opportunity. The festival aims to enhance the entertainment and tourism sectors in the Midlands, beginning with Worcester, by creating an independent film collective. This endeavour will nurture a dynamic creative economy for indie filmmakers in the Midlands and attract investors over the next few years through collaborations with international industries, particularly Nollywood, Nigeria's thriving and prosperous independent film sector through which independent filmmakers in Africa have been able to showcase their independent films on global streaming platforms like NETFLIX and AMAZON. The Mayor of Worcester will be represented by the deputy Mayor, who will attend the closing ceremony on August 25th, present awards to the winners, and join us for the launch of the MIDLANDS INDIE COLLECTIVE, an initiative set to revolutionize the independent film sector in the Midlands. The Realtime International Film Festival also includes the unique, proprietary Realtime 20-hour filmmaking challenge, which is open to everyone above 6 years old!
